Br. José Gislon appointed Bishop of Erexim VATICAN - The Holy Father Benedict XVI has appointed as Bishop of the Diocese of Erexim (Brazil) Br. José Gislon, O.F.M. Cap., General Definitor of the Capuchin Order.
Br. José Gislon, O.F.M. Cap. was born on 23 February 1957 at Ibirama, diocese of Rio Grande do Sul, in Santa Catarina State. After completing primary school he entered the Capuchin Seminary at Irati, completing his secondary studies (1972-1980). He then went on to study philosophy at the Philosophy Institute of the Capuchin Province in Ponta Grossa (1982-1983) followed by theology at Londrina (1983-1986). Her then obtained a license in Church History at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome (1992-1995). He was professed as a Capuchin on 17 October 1980 and was ordainecd priest on 28 May 1988. He held the offices of Vocational School Director, Coordinator for vocations apostolate and assistant priest in the parish of Nossa Senhora Aparecida at Uraí, in the diocese of Cornélio Procópio (1987-1992); Guardian, Director of Postulants and bursar in the friary of Sant’Antônio at Butiatuba (1996-1999); teacher of Church History at the theological Study House in the Archdiocese of Curitiba (1997-2000) and in the archdiocese of Cascavel (1998-2000); provincial defintor, provincial and local bursar in the Capuchin Province of Paraná and Santa Catarina (2000-2002); Provincial Minister at Curitiba (2005-2006). Since 2006 he has been General Definitor of the Order of Capuchin Friars Minor in Rome.
