Latest news from the General Definitory

ROME - During their meeting from September 19-30 2011, the Definitory tackled a full agenda of items relating to the different Provinces of the Order. In addition, the following main items were addressed:

Custody of North Mexico: the Decree establishing the new Custody will be published on December 17 2011, when the new circumscription will come into being.

General Curia: Following the return of Br. Paul Hanbridge, who held several curial offices, the following appointments were made: Br. Massimo Rosina (PR Venice) Vicar of the Fraternity; Br. Damian Philip Pereira (PR Tamil Nadu) second General Vice-secretary: Br. Erivan Araújo de Souza (PR Bahia and Sergipe) will shortly arrive at the Curia to take up the post of archivist.

Fraternity of Garbatella: The house reverts to use by the General Curia and will have 4 of its brothers living there: (Br. Florio Tessari, General Postulator, br. Lorenzo Carloni (PR Marches), Vice-postulator, Br. Juan María Castro, General Assistant for Capuchin Nuns. The Guardian of the Fraternity will be Br. Benitius Brevoort (PR Medan), who will arrive in December.

Fraternity of Via Cairoli: Br. Stefano Morrone (PR Umbria) becomes a member of the Fraternity of Via Cairoli, and Br. Amanuel Mesgun (PR Eritrea) will continue to reside there.

Fraternity of Jerusalem: following the appointment of Br. Stefano Dubini (PR Lombardy) as guardian, Br. Joseph Mindling (PR Pennsylvania) has been appointed Director of the “Light of the World” Centre.

International College/Church: building works should be concluded by December 31st. It is planned to hold the dedication ceremony of the church and altar during the Definitory meeting in March of next year.

General Chapter: the Letter announcing and convoking the General Chapter has now been signed. The Chapter will begin on 19 August 2012 and end on 23 September. (5 weeks, because of the work on the Constitutions and the Complementary Code)
- Officials and assistants; Those brothers who will be officials and assistants at the Chapter have been designated. The list will be published early in 2012.
- 10 Appointed Capitulars. In accordance with n. 116,4 of the Constitutions and art. 9, §2 of the General Chapter procedures, the General and Definitory have decided to appoint as capitulars 10 brothers representing the perpetually-professed lay brothers of the Order, according to a principle of proportionality.
- Commission for the Constitutions: the decision was taken to invite the members of the Constitutions Commission to attend the General Chapter as specialists.
